Miriam, Eduardo, and Tessie Salabert pose for a picture after they arrive in Iowa. Miriam, Eduardo, and Tessie were born in Cuba. They were sent to the United States on April 10, 1961, as a result of Operación Pedro Pan (Operation Peter Pan).
Dr. Blas Moreno of Pawtucket was a native of Cuba, a physician, and a leading developer of medical programs for the National Guard since coming to Rhode Island in 1954. He served as President of the International Institute of Rhode Island (IIRI).
